Instead of saying โI donโt have timeโ try saying โitโs not a priority,โ and see how that feels. Often, thatโs a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just donโt want to. But other things are harder. Try it: โIโm not going to edit your rรฉsumรฉ, sweetie, because itโs not a priority.โ โI donโt go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.โ If these phrases donโt sit well, thatโs the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we donโt like how weโre spending an hour, we can choose differently.
