Artwork for the long-awaitedย John-Ross Boyce and His Troublesย album, Black Shuck/Old Crow, out later this month. This is some of the most visceral, intelligent and important music I’ve heard in some time and it’s been quite the catharsis for me to listen to the songs over and over and over again and make the artwork to accompany their messages.
The music, like its subject matter, is at once rough, raw and dark, yet very playful. Mischievous. How fitting that they are called the Troubles. The band is already a legend of sorts in Provo and Salt Lake, known for their stage antics and for connecting with their crowds like no one else. It’s folk music. It’s black metal. It’s gypsy-rock. It’s addicting.
